Macadamia and Landscape Restoration: Environmental Benefits & Land Rehabilitation

Integrating macadamia and other agroforestry trees in Rwamagana, Karongi, and Rutsiro districts is a promising, sustainable strategy for Kivu Belt landscape restoration and socio-economic development. This approach restores degraded land improving fertility, biodiversity, and resilience while offering farmers long-term income through macadamia nut production. This dual benefit creates a regenerative agriculture model that strengthens community well-being and fosters environmental stewardship.

Providing grafted seedlings  Under PSAC & NAEB

Under the umbrella of the Promoting Smallholder Agri-Export Competitiveness (PSAC) Project, and managed by the National Agricultural Export Board (NAEB), a significant, coordinated effort has been launched to bolster Rwanda’s macadamia value chain. This national initiative is being driven by three parallel Framework Contracts, all signed on November 2, 2025, with a single supplier, PROMACNUTS Ltd. These contracts specifically cover the supply of grafted macadamia seedlings to the Karongi, Rutsiro, and Rwamagana districts.

Macadamia Seedlings Distribution at Karongi District -Mubuga Sector

Supported jointly by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Government of Rwanda, these agreements share an identical structure and consistent framework. Each contract is valid for one year and is renewable, with deliveries managed on an as-needed basis through individual purchase orders.

Ultimately, Promacnuts Ltd’s commitment to the macadamia sector transcends mere commerce. It represents a powerful, transformational endeavor that successfully integrates rural job creation, export-oriented agriculture, and environmental rehabilitation.
